Sacque No. 5239 Pattern

MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY POM­PADOUR, 3 balls (¾ oz. balls).  J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. SIX STRAND EMBROIDERY FLOSS, 1 skein (for embroidery). Crochet Hook, Size G. 3 small pearl buttons...

GAUGE: (Yoke) 5 sc make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

YOKE … Ch 56 tightly to measure 9 inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 7 ch, * sc in same ch, sc in next 8 ch. Repeat from * to end (61 sc). Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc, in­creasing 6 sc evenly around. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd row (but do not make increases directly above previous in­creases) until Yoke measures 2 inches and there are 115 sts. Ch 3, turn. Next row: Dc at base of ch-3, ch 1, 2 dc in same place, * ch 1, skip 2 sc, in next sc work 2 dc with ch-1 between (small shell made), ch 1, skip 2 sc, in next sc work 2 dc, ch 2 and 2 dc (large shell made). Repeat from * across (20 large shells in row). Turn. Following row: Sl st in next st and in next sp. Ch 3, in same sp work dc, ch 1 and 2 dc, then * ch 1, work small shell in sp of next small shell, ch 1, work large shell in sp of next large shell. Repeat from * across. Repeat the last row 3 more times (5 rows of shells). Fasten off.

SLEEVE … 1st row: Skip 3 large shells, attach yarn in sp of next small shell, ch 4, dc in same sp, ch 1, large shell in sp of next large shell. Continue in pattern across until there are 4 large shells, then work small shell in sp of next small shell. Turn. 2nd row: Sl st in sp, ch 4, dc in same sp and continue in pattern across. Repeat the 2nd row until Sleeve measures 4½ inches. Ch 1, turn. Next row: Work 3 sc in ch-1 sp of each shell (27 sc). Ch 1, turn. Following row: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row 2 more times. Fasten off. Skip 6 large shells, attach yarn to next small shell and work other Sleeve to corre­spond. Fasten off.

BODY … Attach yarn to sp of 1st large shell and work in pattern until there are 3 large shells. Ch 1, work small shell in same place where 1st small shell of sleeve was worked, ch 1, small shell in same place where last small shell of sleeve was worked (thus joining) and continue in pattern across, joining 2nd underarm in same way. Turn. Next row: Work in pattern until there are 3 small shells, ch 1, work large shell in ch-1 at underarm, ch 1 and continue in pattern across, making another large shell at other under­arm. Turn. Work in pattern until work measures 7 inches from bottom of Yoke. Next row: Sl st in next st and in next sp. Ch 3, dc in same sp, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook (picot made); 2 dc in same sp, * ch 1, dc in sp of small shell, picot, dc in same sp, ch 1, 2 dc in sp of large shell, picot, 2 dc in same sp. Repeat from * across. Fasten off. Work a row of sc along front edge of right side of yoke, making three ch-2 buttonloops. Sew sleeve seams. With 3 strands of Six Strand Em­broidery Floss, embroider flowers in lazy daisy stitch as in illustration. Sew on buttons.

Baby Socks - Free Crochet Pattern

This free pattern originally published in the Woolco Knitting & Crocheting Manual, in 1916.

MATERIAL

• 1 skein of pink
• 1 of white Woolco Shetland Floss
• No. 3 ½ Woolco hook.

INSTRUCTIONS

Using white, make a chain of 25 stitches; turn; work back in single crochet; chain at the end of row, and take only the half of stitch. Change to pink, and work in alternate ribs of pink and white until there are 7 ribs (4 white and 3 pink).

With pink, work 12 stitches; turn, and continue back and forth for 11 ribs; join to the other side of the front with slip stitches.

Using white for the foot, make a single crochet in every stitch around the front and sides, and make 2 rows plain.

In the 3d, and in every succeeding row, drop a stitch at each corner to form the toe. Make 8 rows of white for the foot and join with slip stitches.

Finish at the top with a neat little scallop and a cord and balls.

Materials Required

AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" PEARL COTTON, ARTICLE 90, 

SIZE 5 

2--50 yd. Balls White or any Color desired.
1--50 yd. Ball Blue or any Color desired for trim. 2 Small Buttons. Steel
Crochet Hook No. 7.

SOLES 

With White, ch 24, work 2 s d c in 2nd st from hook (s d c: thread over needle, insert in st, pull through, thread over and work off all loops at one time), 2 s d c in next st of ch, 1 s d c in each of the next 19 sts of ch, 2 s d c in next st of ch, 3 s d c in last st of ch. Working on opposite side of ch, work 2 s d c in next st, 1 s d c in each of the next 19 sts, 2 s d c in next it, 1 s d c in same space with 1st 2 sts, join.

2nd Row

Ch 2, (counts as 1 s d c) s d c in same space, 2s d c in each of the next 2 s d c, 1 s d c in each of the next 4 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 15 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts, 2 s d c in each of the next 5 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 15 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 4 sts, 2 s d c in each remaining st, join.

3rd Row. Ch 3 (counts as 1 d c), d c in same space, 2 d c in each of the next 4 sts, 1 d c in next st, 1 s d c in each of the next 9 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 13 sts, · 2 s c in next st, 1 s c in next st, repeat from *, * 1 s c in next st, 2 s c in next st, repeat from * , 1 s c in each of the next 13 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 9 sts, 1 d c in next st, 2 d c in each

5 th Row. Ch 2, 1 s d c in each st, join.

6 th Row. Ch 1, 1 s c in each st, join, break thread. 

UPPER SECTION

With White, ch 26, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 24 sts of ch, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. Working in back loop of st only throughout, work 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c, 3 s c in center s c, 1 s c in each remaining 12 s c, ch 1, turn.

3rd Row. 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.

4th Row. 1 s c in each s c working 3 s c in center s c, ch 1, turn.
5th Row. 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.

Repeat the 4th and 5th rows 3 times, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c, ch 1, turn and work back and forth on these 11 sts for the next 59 rows, break thread. Sew to 11 sts at opposite side of vamp.

With Blue, work a Row of s c across toe opening of upper section, break thread.

With wrong side of sole and right side of upper toward you, with Blue, crochet upper section to sole with a Row of s c leaving 17 sts free at toe for opening, break thread. With Blue, work a Row of s c around top of upper section.

STRAP

With white, ch 27, turn, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, ch 3, skip 3 s c (buttonhole), 1 s c in each remaining st, ch 1, turn. Next Row. 1 s c in each st, break thread. Sew strap and button in position.
